Maintenance Programs

Our maintenance programs division is well equipped with the knowledge and equipment for any kind of electrical system. From Transformers, and switchgear to substations- we maintain, repair and inspect them all. With the latest technology and know- how, we are prepared to test any mechanical system.

  • Infrared Thermography

Thermography uses specially designed infrared video or still cameras to make images (called thermograms) that show surface heat variations. This technology has a number of applications. Thermograms of electrical systems can detect excessive heat in electrical connections or components. Thermograms of mechanical systems can detect the heat created by excessive friction.

  • Transformers

Carr & Duff, Inc. performs Dissolved Gas in Oil analysis (DGA), screen tests, water content and can test for PCB content. A DGA analyzes the type and quantity of gas dissolved in the transformer oil.

The principal gases that are typically found are hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, methane, ethylene, ethane and acetylene. Certain quantities and combination of these gases are indicative of: insulation overheating/overloading, liquid overheating, partial discharge (corona), or arcing in the transformer. A transformer’s oil fluid serves as a heat transfer medium; it is also a part of the transformer’s insulation system. PBC tests are for older transformers to ensure compliance with EPA regulations.

Carr & Duff, Inc. Services Include:
    • Heavy hauling and rigging of components and equipment
    • Apparatus installation, maintenance and testing
  • Switchgear / Substation

Carr & Duff, Inc. provides switchgear/substation de-energized testing services. De-energized testing includes, but not limited to, cleaning and insulation and contact resistance testing. In conjunction with the IR testing, these additional tests allow us to evaluate the overall state of your switchgear/substation.

Switchgear installed by contractors in the late 1960s and 70s to meet the increasing load demands of industry began to fail in the 1980s and 90s. These failures have been documented and are available in the IEEE and Doble Engineering Minute reports. This failure trend will continue in spite of state-of-the-art changes in construction techniques and installation methods unless preventative maintenance steps are taken.

  • Maintenance, Repair & Inspection

Our Maintenance Programs division installs medium to heavy electrical equipment, including street lighting systems, airport lighting systems, power lines and power poles, conduit, electrical panels and related electric services devices and equipment.

Maintenance and inspection of bridge decking, highway lighting systems, airport electrical, and lighting systems are only some of the critical systems that Carr & Duff, Inc. provides service for with our maintenance, repair and inspection division.
